I went ahead and raced the Georgia Single Speed State Championships Yesterday and boy was it painful! I decided at the last minute to go and when I got there there were 3 or four expert and semi-pro riders albeit in my age group that decided to race in their age class rather than the open class.... So needless to say I got my ass kicked!!!! I mean I guess 5th after not having raced in a year and a half and basically doing no training at all ain't that bad but damn! So I can now be free to get on a bike with some cush and gears! Here is a picture of my pain for you 2 people who look at this.

The Dirt Church Clemson, SC

Man what a great day of riding! Myself and a group consisting of Mike, Mark, Alex, Brian, Jeff, Christian, Derek, Dave, and Andy headed up to Issaquena for a HOT (90+ and what had to be 110% humidity) day of riding the great trails! I cleaned out and borrowed Moma Bear's suburban and Mike broke out the Wake-N-Bake team trailer for all the bikes and gear, we all met at the shop at 7:00am to pile in and load up! We were on the trails by 10:00 and it was already hot as shit! We all were soaked with sweat in the first 5 minutes! We proceeded to rock out the Doyle Bottom loop first which took about 2 hours or so! I drank my 100oz camelbak dry in that short loop! We then stopped at the truck for beer and snacks to refuel for a jaunt around the lake loop (maybe my favorite trail anywhere!)!! Once we rolled that everyone was gassed and very hot so we loaded up had a couple of beers then headed to Moe's for post ride burritos. Well we were all sporting a core temp of about 100000 degrees and their damn AC was busted!! LOL!!! Anyway the grub was actually very good (or maybe we were just hungry?)! Then the A-town crew headed home everyone smack talking all the way! Love it! Oh and I rode my new SS, boy what a workout that was!!! I hung tough with everyone for the most part though! Ride to drink, drink to ride! Peace

SS? Get ready for the techno babble boy (suspension, gears, technology in general) to totally shft gears and get-r-dunn.

Oh and my baby Savy is a mountainbiker afterall.

Slacker, thats me. There was BEER, there were great friends, there was great weather, there was gravel, there was pavement, there was single track, there was double track, there were sandwich's, there were burritos, BEER, Vodka, nougat (damn that shit was good Kes!), there was fresh spring water. Wow what an awesome day riding all around Mountain City, GA with our guides Bobby and Betsy Hartridge! We were out for something like 6 hours, probably an hour and half or so of lollygagging, eating etc... etc... etc... All said it was quite a mixture of riding that made for a really wonderful day! Well I have had some MAJOR shake up in my life, I was in a position with a company that I'd held for 7 years, I gave an awful lot to the cause with them but never got fair compensation and finally got completely sick of it. Mostly out of anger I took a position with a rival start-up company, more pay better benfits and actual advancement possibilties. Boy did I make a bad decision, the stress level, the travel, everything about it has turned out to totally not have been worth it, I guess the good side of it is that the inner hunger for happiness has been awakened. I have been looking harder than ever for something I can do for myself. I have some money sucked away and have considered many things. One of my very good friends owns the best burrito place in Athens and has agreed to consider showing me the way on a shoe string budget. I have to also say that I have travelled all over this country and sampled many a burrito joint only to discover that really none are as good or as soulful as my buddies place. One more point is that I've said for years that a good burrito joint at the bottom of every ski lift in north America would be the jam. Well as I sit here in Breck enjoying a Deschutes Brewery Inversion IPA (one of the very beers that inspired Spike and John to go for it with Terrapin Beer Co) and having sampled what the locals consider to be the best burritos in the Breck believe more than ever that my saying is for real, every ski town needs a good burrito joint. Shall I for go all wisdom and sanity and go for it? We'll see if I can over come my fear and for once just try...

Am I As Think As You Drunk I Am?

Me and Savy somewhere near the stroke of 2008.....

Wow! It's been raining for what seems like a month, maybe it's just because I actually have had a few days off and the weather has been totally shitty (no bike riding................). Don't get me wrong I know we need the rain worse than ever in my lifetime but damn did we have to get it ALL through the holidays????? Uggggh! At least I've eaten more than any human being should and consumed many a great beverage! In fact my brother and I visited a friends new Beer Bar downtown the other night. Trapezze is friggin AWESOME if you love really good beer! Eric has done the best job ever in Athens of providing the best beer available! Simply awesome! The kids got spoiled beyond rotten for Christmas as usual! I faired pretty well too! We got a week long family trip to Breckenridge!!!!!!!!!!! I managed to get myself a brand new downhill bike too!!! Yikes!! I suppose I'll be needing a fullface helmet, some body armor and some swollen nutts!!!! WooooHoooo! So I guess tomorrow it's time to resolve to ride more, eat less and better etc... etc... etc... Happy New Year!!!!!

NIGHT RIDE!!! 1st "official" of the year......

Wow it's just a different story riding a mountain bike in the dark! VERY cool though once you get used to it! Last night was a small group, myself, Anger, and Big Jon! It started at the shop with a 6er of terrapin rye. We headed out towards the famed 441 trails, store stop right at the trail head for a 24oz high life, sitting in the woods with a couple of great friends sharing a high life on a night mountain bike ride I gotta tell is about as good as it gets! From there we proceeded through the first section of trails and at the crossroads Jon let us know that he had a broken pivot bolt........... So it was a slow ride helping him a little here and there with a push back to the shop where there were more terrapins waiting!!!! We cranked up the tunes, had an ice cold one and chatted a bit about bikes, beer, and burritos! Ahhhh that's life. I then dashed across the street to The Mean Bean to fetch a sack of burritos for Momma Bear and me! Got home, had another ice cold one with Momma Bear while consuming mega burritos! I'll call that a night! The mighty fall tour prologue goes off tonight at the infamous chase street trails! Full report to follow! Did I mention riding a mountain bike is just straight up fun?

New Company!

I have had a thought for a few months about starting a sports company and I finally just did it! I registered www.wear11.com and plan to have clothing (panties, swimwear, cycling gear, T-shirts, sunglasses etc...). I decided to leave it pretty open so as not to pigeon hole into just the cycling market as even though that's my love it's a small niche market! So I'm looking at suppliers and manufacturers etc... and plan to rock and roll with it and see what happens? 10+1=11 you figure it out! LOL!

Sunday 11-4-07 Ride Report

Rose early to head out for a ride in Clemson, SC at the Issaquena trails! Maybe my favorite place in the SE to ride! Had what appeared to be a good group but there was a text message waiting for me stating that the majority were backing out (the message came over around midnight so I'm sure my homeys were drunk as shit!!!) so it was me and my boy Mike. The trails there are very close to lake Hartwell which was good for me on this day as it was the 23rd anniversary of my fathers passing away and his ashes are in lake Hartwell. I managed a private few minutes on a beautiful point on a calm section of the lake, there was not a cloud in the sky and although we are in a serious drought the trees were a blaze of color! I spent a few minutes reflecting and finished up with a handful of the lake Hartwell water splashed over my heart! I MISS YOU DAD! Over all a great ride with one of my best friends! We had an ice cold beer at the truck then headed over to Moe's for a phat burrito before heading home! Hell the miserable Falcons even won the game we listened to on the way back! This week should provide some funny ride stories as there are several rides happening including the prologue for the 2007 fall tour!!
